How far in advance do you need to schedule a transport?

Same day transports are welcome. However, we recommend you call as soon as an appointment/event has been scheduled to guarantee a particular time.

Do you only transport for medical appointments?

No, we transport for holidays, weddings or any special events.

Does Medicare pay for wheelchair transportation?

Medicare does not pay for wheelchair van transportation. Medicare does not view wheelchair service as a medical form of transportation. Fortunately, wheelchair van service is less expensive than an ambulance transport.

Does Medicare cover ambulance transports?

Yes, Medicare does cover ambulance transports if the patient meets the strict Medicare criteria. Patient must be bed confined, meaning unable to get up from bed without assistance, unable to walk and unable to sit in a chair (including a wheelchair). This is just one of the many requirements for Medicare.

Does Medicare cover a trip to the doctor's office?

No. Medicare will not cover an ambulance transport to a doctor's office.

What happens if Medicare denies my claim?

You need to contact Medicare to appeal. Call 1-800-Medicare

Will you transport a patient out of state?

Yes, we will transport a patient out of the area. Please call a patient transportation coordinator to discuss your options.

Will a wheelchair driver take a patient down steps?

We limit the number of steps to 1 or 2 based on the patient's weight. This is to protect the patient and driver from injury.

May I ride with the patient?

Yes, one person may ride with the patient.

In October of 2007, East Coast Ambulance and Wheelchair Service participated in the Race for the Cure.  We also contributed a dollar from every transport during the month of October.   We were proud to deliver a check for $2282 to the Maryland Komen affiliate located in Towson.  Thank you to all of our customers who made this possible. East Coast Ambulance and Wheelchair Service are looking forward to donating more in 2008.   The Komen Race for the Cure Series raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease
